Pregnant woman saved from drowning

NEW YORK Eyewitness News is told the pregnant woman somehow ended up in the waters off Battery Park at around 11 p.m., in water up to 50 feet deep and about 65 degrees.

Passersby quickly summoned FDNY Lt. Michael Finer and Firefighters Timothy Moynihan and Michael Lambert.

"She was going under ... for the very last time," Moynihan said.

Finer reportedly saw the woman's arm in his spotlight beam. Lambert pulled their boat alongside her, and Moynihan went in.

By that time, says Moynihan, "She was under water. I got her by the hair. ... She was barely conscious."

Moynihan shrugged off the rescue.

It's just "a day in the life of New York City fireman," he said.
