Two New York police officers were arraigned on misdemeanor assault charges Thursday, accused of beating a Long Beach firefighter. According to city officials, the victim objected when the off-duty police officers and a third man made a rude remark to the firefighter's sister outside a row of bars on a Long Beach street.

The officers are assigned to the 101st Precinct in Far Rockaway. The identity of the third man is not known.

They allegedly attacked the off-duty firefighter, Brian McNamara, 32, as his 22-year-old sister watched Saturday morning around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday.

When McNamara tried to run away, the assailants caught up with him and beat him again, investigators said.

Long Beach police arrested the two NYPD officers a few blocks away from where the beatings took place. They were covered in blood, according to police.

The officers were identified as Douglas Rome, 25, and Jason Ragoo, 26. Both men surrendered Wednesday and were charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
