Hormone could fight diabetes

September 18, 2008 Researchers say they've discovered a new type of hormone that could help fight type 2 diabetes, which is tied to obesity.

The hormone works almost as well as insulin at removing sugar from the blood.

But as people get fatter, they produce less of this new hormone.

In the future, doctors potentially could give the hormone to patients or try to boost its production to prevent or treat diabetes.
