Chrysler to show off electric cars next week

NEW YORK Chrysler spokesman Stuart Schorr says Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealers will be given "insight into (the company's) business strategies" via videoconference at high-definition movie theaters across the nation Tuesday.

Schorr wouldn't reveal the screening's contents, but Alan Helfman, vice president of a Chrysler dealership in Houston, says he was told the event will show off Chrysler's next-generation line of plug-in electric cars.

The automaker has previously announced plans to get into the electric car business and has been demonstrating plug-in hybrid prototypes to some dealers.

Earlier this week, General Motors Corp. unveiled its own plug-in hybrid, the Volt, which it expects to launch by late 2010.
