Dolphin found dead in NJ river

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) A marine mammal rescue worker said it is likely the dead animal was one of the so-called "wayward dolphins" that have been drawing large crowds since they made a wrong turn out of Sandy Hook Bay in June.

It was found by a marina worker in Fair Haven. There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

The plight of the dolphins has become a point of contention between rescue groups and national wildlife officials, who have been reluctant to approve a plan to coax or scare the dolphins out of the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers back out to sea.
