Mystery beating in Little Ferry

LITTLE FERRY, N.J. Now they are trying to determine if it was an accident or foul play.

Police say this is an unusual case for the area of Little Ferry.

A 57-year-old man was found in the bushes, unconscious, with a gash to his head, with a couple of pears in his pocket. Police say the victim had been missing since Tuesday.

Investigators have been going over the scene, focusing on a burgundy van that had a shoe outside of its door.

There is also a pear tree on the other side of the van, and police are looking at the pears on the ground from the tree looking for evidence.

"He was found here this morning, laying in the bushes and he's having surgery at Hackensack Medical Center. We don't know how it occurred, it wasn't a gunshot wound or anything like that, it was some sort of blunt force trauma to his head," said Lt. Frank Novak.

The victim is a plumber from Palisades Park.

Witnesses say they heard a loud confrontation last night before the body was found.
