Police hunt for boyfriend in baby murder

CLIFTON, NEW JERSEY A warrant has been issued for Jose Flores-Rivera in connection with the death of an 8-month-old Jocelyn Almonte in Clifton, New Jersey.

Passaic County authorities declared the death a murder after the medical examiner ruled the girl died from blunt force trauma.

"I don't have much more on him yet, other than to say he is the boyfriend of the child's mother," Passaic County Prosecutor James Avigliano told the Star-Ledger. "We have the U.S. Marshall, Clifton Police and our people looking for him. There is evidence he may have fled the state, but not the country."

The child was reportedly found dead by his mother, Macrina Enriquez, on Saturday morning. Enriquez has not been charged.

"They were apparently together during the late night hours, and were both in a shower," Avigliano told the newspaper. "When the mother saw the baby at the time, she was in a high-chair and the mother thought the baby was sleeping. The next morning, she found that the baby was dead."

Authorities say the mother called police for help around 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The child was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson.

Flores-Rivera is facing charges of murder and endangering the welfare of a child.
