Canals is accused of stabbing 29-year-old Ramon Torres to death with a large kitchen knife during a domestic dispute.
Torres died at the Jersey City Medical Center from a single stab wound to the upper abdomen that pierced the liver, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.
The couple reportedly lived together on 66th Street in West New York, and published reports say the stabbing may have been witnessed by Canals' 10-year-old son.
