Boy, 13 shot near Brooklyn school

A 13-year-old boy is in a Brooklyn hospital after being wounded in a shootout near his elementary school.Relatives say Lamont "Shariffe" Peebles was with friends near Public School 298 in the Brownsville section about 8 p.m. Monday when someone opened fire on his group.

The boy's mother says her son didn't know the attackers. Police say the teenager is in stable condition with gunshot wounds to his back and left arm.

The shooting on Glenmore Avenue near Watkins Street is under investigation.
