Police: Woman murdered in Bensonhurst

BENSONHURST Police say the victim, identified as 31-year-old Jessica Enger was shot in the arm and the chest inside 2468 85th Street just before 7 a.m.

The masked suspect broke into her 85th Street apartment building this morning because he knew the upstairs neighbor, who runs a pizzeria, had a large amount of money, according to police.

The suspect accessed the apartment building through Enger's unlocked back door.

At some point police say she confronted him as he made his way to the upstairs neighbor.

The armed suspect tried to rob the neighbor of the stash of money, believed to be in the neighborhood of $9,000, which he accrued from running his business.

According to police, as the suspect waved his weapon through the air, it accidentally fired, striking Enger twice.

She was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

While some in the neighborhood speculated on a drug connection, investigators believe the pizzeria owner was the target of the robbery and Enger was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Enger was described as an office worker who loved to dance.
