Teen killed in wreck on Long Island

PLANDOME Police say the two cars involved were traveling in the same direction, southbound on Plandome Road. Investigators say the cars were dangerously close together, which ultimately caused the deadly accident.

Now, one teenager is dead and another is charged with DWI.

The twisted wreckage of the two vehicles was towed away on a flatbed truck in the wooded hills of the North Shore. Police shut down part of Plandome Road, near Shore View, at around 3 a.m. The two cars crashed, one hitting a tree and the other a utility pole.

"I heard what sounded like another one of our crazy storms," one area resident said. "I looked out the window, didn't see anything, went back to sleep. Five minutes later, there was about seven police cars lined up along the road, and you knew it wasn't something very good."

Police sources say they are investigating if this is a case of horseplay or possible drag racing.

The victim was identified as 18-year-old Anthony Saldana, of Port Washington. The driver is 18-year-old Juan Guzman. There were a total of five people involved in the crash, and authorities say they were all good friends.
