Poll: 3rd term for mayor, not City Council

NEW YORK A Quinnipiac University poll conducted this week showed that a majority of city residents now favor a proposal to extend term limits from two to three terms. Bloomberg said this week he would seek to change the law and run for re-election next year.

The poll says 54 percent of voters support extending the term limits law to keep the mayor in City Hall. An early poll in July found a majority of voters opposed to the idea.

But 58 percent of voters opposed making the same change to give City Council members a third term.

The poll of 1,316 registered voters has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
