Lerner pleaded guilty in June to misconduct by a corporate officer under a plea deal with the state.
Lerner was chief executive of Sayreville-based High Road Schools, which has since changed its name to New Road Schools.
State Attorney General Anne Milgram says the company has to hire an independent monitor who will report to the state.
