Gas in NJ dips below $3

NEW JERSEY Prices of $2.98 and $2.99 for regular unleaded gas were posted at stations in Newark, Jersey City and Hillside. They were the cheapest gas prices since April.

The average price of gas in the Garden State broke the $3 barrier last March.

The prices are dropping over concerns that demand will weaken further in an economic slowdown. Oil prices fell below $90 a barrel, and light, sweet crude for November delivery was down $4.69 to $89.19 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange by late afternoon in Singapore.

Oil prices have tumbled nearly 40 percent since peaking in July.
