Hometown Hero 11/6/2008: Jacqueline Molligo

Jacqueline Molligo
New York Jacqueline is an unassuming and charitable individual who is known in the community for her willingness to help others, not for reward or accolade, but rather, because she truly enjoys helping others. Despite her busy schedule as an executive working for a large company in Manhattan, Jacqueline has still found time in the past two years to raise funds for a church and school in Mississippi that were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, to travel to Guatemala to work with a local school, and to help built homes with Habitat for Humanity.

Even more impressive, in May 2008, Jacqueline traveled to Cambodia for two weeks with a group of volunteers from the Gift of Sight Mission. The mission was to provide eye care, examinations, and prescription glasses, all free of charge, to the citizens of that country. For two straight weeks, Jacqueline and the team of volunteers worked in 90 degree heat and high humidity for 16+ hour days to ensure that the thousands of people lined up each morning were cared for and given prescription eyewear where needed.

What truly sets Jacqueline Molligo apart as a Hometown Hero is that all of the prescription eyewear that the group distributed in Cambodia was donated by individuals in Jacqueline's community. Prior to leaving for Cambodia, Jacqueline had reached out to the Manhasset community asking them to donate their used, old, or unwanted prescription glasses so that she could take them with her on her mission to Phnom Pehn, Cambodia. Jacqueline's collection goal was 1000 glasses, yet she collected over 1700 pairs.

For her selflessness in her own community as well as her selflessness in others' community, Jacqueline Molligo is truly a Hometown Hero.
