Hometown Hero Colonel Bernstein served in the Army for exactly 27 years before retiring and becoming a Junior Officer Reserve Officer Training Corps Instructor (JROTC). In a little over a year from now, Col. Bernstein will have served an additional 27 years as a teacher, leader, advisor, and mentor to his community.

Col. Bernstein is a gifted communicator and has taught hundreds of high school students the invaluable lessons of what it means to be a United States citizen and what it means to be a true leader. Although Colonel Bernstein has already been recognized with numerous military honors, he also deserves this Hometown Hero award to recognize him for his outstanding service and dedication to his local community.
