Man who pointed gun at police is wounded

NEW YORK Police say the officers had been at the scene of a fire in Brooklyn early Saturday when they heard gunshots, and saw a man run across the street and collapse. As the four officers approached, they saw another man with a gun.

Police say the officers ordered the man to drop his weapon, but he pointed it at them instead. Three of the officers fired their weapons, but police say it is not clear whether those shots struck the man or whether he had already been shot by someone else.

The injuries were not life-threatening, and the man was taken into custody. The other man was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Both wounded men were not identified.

Authorities recovered a loaded weapon, drugs and shell casings.

The incident is under investigation.
