Inverness Road remained a very active crime scene all Monday morning. Around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, a motorist saw the body and called 911. Now, Greenburg police are trying to determine exactly what happened. The victim is described as a black or Hispanic man who was shot to death and possibly strangled.
"I'm assuming that it didn't happen in our area," area resident Hilary Plattus said. "I'm hoping that it happened elsewhere, and the person was just brought here, ultimately."
The body was discovered in the woods just off of the busy Central Avenue commercial strip. The property is owned by the Town of Greenburgh, located just across the Yonkers border. Residents say the woods are a constant source of concern.
"We've done cleanups," Plattus said. "We have something called 'Bash the Trash' week, where we clean up the area and we collect all the trash. And we've found things in there like knives and food, things I didn't really want my kids walking through."
Yonkers police were also on the scene. There was another crime that took place not too far away around the same time Sunday, and police are checking to see if the two incidents are related.
