Two Newark police officers were injured this morning following a chase of suspects wanted for a string of carjackings and robberies. The suspects were reportedly spotted in a stolen vehicle, a 2001 silver Audi, at the Getty gas station at 501 Frelinghuysen Avenue just before 3 a.m.

Police were responding to the area following a report of an attempted robbery.

The officers chased the Audi to the intersection of Broad and Court streets, where their police cruiser slammed into two parked cars.

Eyewitness News is told the officers in the cruiser were taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of minor injuries.

The Audi fled the scene, last spotted going onto Interstate 78.

Officials say the suspects in the Audi were wanted for a recent string of crimes, including a carjacking and armed robbery.
