Investigators said the 8-month-old boy, Elijah Rodriguez, was unconscious when he was taken to the Bronx Health Center on Westchester Avenue.
He was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where he died shortly after surgery.
The medical examiner's office found Rodriguez died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen, which caused internal hemorrhaging and injuries to his organs.
The child also had a bruise on his scalp and a fracture of his arm that was in the process of healing.
Police arrested his father, 21-year-old John Rodriguez of 999 Freeman Street, on Wednesday night.
