Tappan Zee Bridge opens extra lane

NEW CITY, N.Y. The 53-year-old span that links Westchester and Rockland Counties is under constant repair. Raised steel construction plates on parts of the bridge have caused constant traffic back-ups.

The extra Westchester-bound lane will be created by moving the median barrier over one lane, leaving only two Rockland-bound lanes in the morning. The lanes will be changed by midday to four Rockland-bound lanes and three lanes into Westchester County for the evening commute.
