A Long Island man is dead after his boat fell on him while he was trying to put it into winter storage. Suffolk County police say 62-year-old Edward Freitas was crushed when his 24-foot powerboat slipped off its blocks Saturday.

The retired banker had been chocking the boat and its trailer at his summer residence at the West Oak Recreation Club in Oakdale. He lives in Patchogue.

A friend found his body around 12:20 p.m.

Police are investigating the accident.
