11-year-old found dead in Brooklyn home

Police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl who was found dead in her home in Brooklyn.Investigators have been on the scene in East New York since early Sunday morning.

Alejandra Vasquez died a violent death, her small body beaten and bruised. The girl's mother and her live-in boyfriend are now at the police precinct, trying to explain what happened. Sources tell Eyewitness News an arrest is imminent.

Neighbor Nancy Irizarry says she wishes she heard or saw anything at the three-story apartment building on Atlantic Avenue, anything that would indicate that the little girl who always sat on the stoop was in trouble.

"I am overwhelmed," Irizarry said. "I can't believe this is happening in our neighborhood. They were just a normal family. She was cheery, mother was cheery."

It's not clear who found the little girl inside apartment 3R, where she lived with her two siblings, her mother and her mother's boyfriend. It was just before 6 a.m. when police say she was found dead in her bed. Sources say she had cut marks and bruises on her body and face, and it appeared she had been there for at least a day.

Not many people in the area knew the family, who just moved in about four months ago. Neighbors did hear people arguing inside the apartment Saturday night. The landlord remembers going inside to check the heat last week. He said he never expected this, and added the tenants never gave him any trouble.

Authorities say the girl's siblings were taken to the hospital to be checked out. They are now in the care of ACS.
