The man who died had been standing outside a bakery on a busy commercial strip in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon when the two armed men jumped out of a sport utility vehicle, charged toward him and started shooting, police said.
The man, who was 19, fled into the nearby De Lux Gallery salon, and the armed men followed and kept shooting, they said.
At least 10 shots were fired, witnesses said.
An off-duty police officer getting her hair done was shot in a foot. A stylist at the salon, which is next to a restaurant and other stores in the Fort Greene neighborhood, was shot in the legs. Two bystanders also were shot in their legs.
The wounded victims were hospitalized in stable condition.
The gunmen fled in a 2001 Chevy Tahoe, which was later found ditched in another section of Brooklyn. They remained at large.
