2 state troopers hurt in GCP crash

LITTLE NECK Eyewitness News is told the troopers pulled the vehicle over on the westbound Grand Central Parkway, just over the city line, just before 4:30 a.m. this morning.

They had observed a motor vehicle violation while on the Northern State Parkway in Nassau County.

As they initiated the traffic stop, a third vehicle reportedly slammed into the rear of the troopers' patrol car.

Officials say the two troopers were rushed to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset with neck and back injuries. One of the troopers had a leg injury.

Neither of the injuries were considered life threatening.

The occupants of the two other vehicles were also being treated.

Meanwhile, Newscopter 7 was live over the crash.

The collision and ensuing investigation closed the westbound Grand Central Parkway for much of the morning commute.

Traffic was backed up onto the Northern State Parkway in Nassau County, and nearby roads such as the Long Island Expressway and Northern Boulevard also had residual traffic.

The investigation is being led by the New York State Police Troop L barracks.
