Police search for missing Virgin Mary statues

UNION, N.J. A picture of the missing statue of the Virgin Mary shows just how meticulosly the Rodriquez family took care of the religious artifact.

Gladys Rodriguez purchased garments from Peru to dress the Virgin Mary statue for special prayer services for the community. Now there is an empty shell left behind with flowers placed there by strangers who came by to pray.

The statue became a fixture after Gladys' son found it the garbage. She started praying around the statue and believes her prayers turned her son's life around

Another smaller statue of the Virgin Mary was stolen right around the corner. Police are on the look out for the two missing religious symbols but the hope is that they will be returned.
