Plastic bag tax proposal for NYC

Plastic bags could cost New York City shoppers a nickel under a proposal being pushed by Mayor Bloomberg was he wrangles with a multibillion-dollar budget deficit. The mayor wants to impose a 5-cent surcharge for each plastic bag shoppers get at stores in the Big Apple.

If Bloomberg's plan is determined to be a tax, his proposal would have to be approved by state lawmakers in Albany.
