Two teens, 1 of them pregnant, shot

NEWARK Eyewitness News is told the victims, a 17-year-old pregnant girl and an 18-year-old man, were hit in the gunfire in front of 194 North 11th Street just after 11 p.m. last night.

Police say at least two suspects exited a white Nissan Altima and opened fire on the teens, part of a group. The two victims were hit in the gunfire.

The 17-year-old girl, who is six months pregnant, was rushed to University Hospital in stable condition. Doctors determined the gunshot did not threaten her pregnancy.

The other victim, an 18-year-old, was shot in the hand and buttocks. He walked into the hospital and is also in stable condition.

Authorities said despite a lack of cooperation from the victims about the circumstances of the incident, they were able to quickly get a detailed description of the suspect vehicle.

The suspects were quickly pulled over in the area of Park Avenue and First Street. Police boxed in the vehicle with their patrol cars and placed three young men under arrest.

Two Newark teens, ages 18 and 19, and an 18-year-old man from Massachusetts, were charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose

The motive for the shooting is under investigation. The car was not reported stolen.
