Daughter charged in mom's death

WEST ISLIP Authorities say Suffolk County police were called to West Birch Street in Islip on Thursday at 7:40 a.m. after Laurie Young stated that she found her mother dead in bed at their residence.

Her mother, 75-year-old Marlene Young, was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office, where an autopsy determined that she had sustained multiple broken bones prior to her death.

An investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department Homicide Squad has determined that Laurie Young assaulted her mother on November 12, 2008 and then withheld medical care because she feared arrest.

Laurie Young is charged with first-degree manslaughter.
