Robbery and shooting caught on tape

E. HARLEM There were actually two surveillance cameras at work when the crime occurred Thursday night at approximately 11:48 PM.

The deli is located at 1315 Fifth Avenue in East Harlem.

One camera shows the suspects lingering outside the store. Then one of them goes in and the second surveillance camera shows him aiming a gun at a store clerk and demanding cash.

The gunman points the gun at another employee. That worker said the gunman threatened violence unless he got what he wanted.

The clerk hands over an undisclosed amount of money, but he also reached down under the counter to hit the alarm. A struggle followed.

The 34-year-old clerk said he tried to get the gun away from the suspect, and the gun went off. A bullet went through his hand.

The robbers then fled on foot.

The bullet wound up lodged in a Life-savers box. The clerk was treated at the hospital and released. He was back at work Friday night.
