On Monday, President Joao Bernardo Vieira returned to work. He and his wife narrowly escaped the assassination attempt by hiding inside their house.
Guinea-Bissau has a history of coups and unrest. Vieira himself came to power in a 1980 coup.

Interior Ministry spokesman Col. Armando Nhaga says three other
suspected coup plotters fled after the gunbattle early Sunday. At
least one guard was killed.
