The two were not married, even though they both had the same name. She was the mother of his child.
Upon seeing his daughter fatally shot, the woman's 78-year-old father then got into an alleged gunfight with the suspect.
The suspect was shot in the torso and pronounced dead at the scene.
The 78-year-old father was shot in the shoulder and taken to Bellevue Medical Center in stable condition.
Two guns, a .357 revolver and .32 caliber semi-automatic were recovered at the scene.
It was not immediately clear if the father's gun was registered.
No charges were immediately filed.
