Holiday charities feeling the pinch

The economy may be slow and charities are hurting, but they remain hopeful that people will continue to give. Toys for Tots is still in the early stages. Others charities have already felt the pinch.

Operation Christmas Child collects shoeboxes filled with gifts. Because they are shipped around the world, they've already finished collecting them in Rockland County. This year, the truck is leaving a little lighter than in the past.

Some charities like the Food Bank have been hit with a one two punch: donations are down, while demand for their services is up.

Charities stress every little bit helps. The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County can turn every dollar donated into seven dollars worth of food.
