Father charged in arson

BOGOTA, N.J. Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Donn Stofan, 41, was charged with aggravated arson and endangering the welfare of children.

According to investigators, police and fire officials responded to the fire at 316 Second Place at 1:42 Thursday morning.

Stofan was home with his four children, ages 16 to 10 years old, at the time. They were asleep.

Investigators determined two separate areas where a fire started, which they said is indicative of an arson.

Stofan managed to get the kids out of the house in a frantic rescue effort, officials said.

His 10-year-old son was taken to Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck with minor injuries. No one else was injured.

Prosecutors said Stofan set the fire after an argument with his wife.

Stofan was taken into custody and charged. He remained at the Bergen County Jail Annex in lieu of $200,000.00 bail.
