Twin babies carjacked in New Jersey

NEWARK Police say she stepped out of her car for a moment, only for it to be stolen while the kids were still in the back seat.

The parents were horrified as they realized what they were witnessing, but later Wednesday, they were counting their blessings.

"It's tough to deal with, when you have your babies in the truck," father Juan Rivera said.

Their black SUV was stolen from the front of their home, and it was found less than a block away in the middle of the street.

The twin girls, Jessie and Jenny, just 10 months old, were in the back seat of the car just before 9 a.m. when their mother backed out of the driveway and got out to close the gate. That's when the thief jumped in the car and drove off.

The suspect realized the babies were in the car and apparently dropped the vehicle off right near the crime scene. The twins were unharmed.

The children's grandmother was trying to catch her breath from the terrifying moments.

"We're all upset right now," Endia Rivera said. "I just want to relax."

Both kids were taken to University Hospital to get checked out.

The suspect remains on the run, and is described as a black man with bushy eyebrows.
