Suffolk County police say a 14-year-old boy has been shot in the leg after a basketball game at William Floyd High School on Long Island. The victim, a ninth grader at Mastic Beach school is listed in stable condition at Stony Brook University Medical Cetner.

The incident occurred Friday evening outside of the school doors as spectators were leaving the game against Mercy High School in Riverhead. The school was locked down for about 20 minutes. The boy, who was not a player, was hit once in the right leg, and police are searching for suspects.

Athletic director Mark Mensch told Newsday that people heard the shot and ran back inside the gymnasium as the athletic awards were being handed out. He said the boy was treated by emergency medical technicians who were in the bleachers.
