Arrest in year-old murder case

STAMFORD, Conn. Last December, 22-year-old Gregory Rowell, a hard working, popular member of the community, was found shot to death in his car. Police have charged a friend, Hyshon Smith, with murder.

The 18-year-old had been questioned by Stamford police just days after the shooting, but it wasn't until last night that investigators said he confessed.

In court, Smith's lawyer said the teen was under the influence of a mind-altering drug and at one point was taken to the hospital overnight. He plans to dispute any statements made to police.

Investigators say they are looking at a number of possible motives. Rowell was gay, and Smith told investigators it was "a relationship gone bad."

Regardless, family members said the arrest is an important part of the healing process.
