Paterson talks to Cuomo about Senate seat

ALBANY, N.Y. Asked by reporters if Cuomo, the attorney general, had asked to be considered, Paterson said: "We have talked about the Senate. Our conversations, as are conversations with anyone else, are private."

Cuomo, son of former Gov. Mario Cuomo, has refused to confirm his interest or that he's talked to Paterson about the job.

Paterson's comment comes a day after the other most visible hopeful for the Senate seat, Caroline Kennedy, made headlines statewide in an unannounced tour after confirming her interest in the job.

Clinton has been tapped to be President-elect Barack Obama's secretary of state.
