LI man seriously hurt in DWI crash

CENTRAL ISLIP Police say Aundra Talbert was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable southbound on Route 111 in Central Islip when he collided with a northbound 2000 Nissan Xterra at the intersection of Fig Street at 2:15 a.m. The Nissan was driven by 48-year-old Rosa Romero, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Talbert, 23, and his two passengers were injured in the crash. One of the passengers, 19-year-old Jonathan Grecky, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center with serious injuries. Talbert was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and was arrested for driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The other passenger in Talbert's vehicle was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are requesting that anyone who witnessed the crash to contact detectives at 631-854-8352.
