Woman carjacked at NJ mall

ELIZABETH Police say the woman was opening her car door when a man with a gun pushed her inside. The man reportedly had some difficulty starting her push-button car, and failed to lock the doors.

As the car started moving, the victim apparently opened the door and jumped out of the moving vehicle. The suspect then drove off.

The woman told police that mall security did not help, but a random couple stayed with her until the police arrived. She said her boyfriend sent a text messaged to her phone, which was still in the suspect's possesion. The suspect then text messaged back, saying he stole the car because he had no money and had to feed his kids.

The victim, who lives in Carteret, says she is still shaken up but wants to publicize the incident to get more security at the mall.

Her car has not been found.
