Small plane crashes in Hunterdon Co.

ALEXANDRIA TOWNSHIP, N.J. State Police Sgt. Steve Jones said the single-engine Piper aircraft crashed sometime after 7 p.m. Tuesday in a wooded area of the rural community about 30 miles northwest of Trenton.

State police and area fire companies responded. Jones said the injured person, a male, was airlifted to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa. There was no immediate word on his condition.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the New Jersey Division of Aeronautics were notified.

The crash occurred about a quarter-mile east of Alexandria Field, a small airport in Pittstown.

The identities of the victims were not immediately available.
