NJ boy helms coat drive for children

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. Christopher - just seven years old - tells the Courier News of Bridgewater that he wants to help children whose parents can't afford to buy them winter coats.

The second-grader's volunteer streak started in Dec. 2007 when he asked his mother why she was making him zip up his own coat.

She told him that some boys and girls didn't even have coats.

Christopher offered to give away his Spider-Man jacket to a child in need.

He's now collected more than 480 gently used coats over the past two years for Jersey Cares in Newark.

His goal is to collect 1,000 coats by Dec. 2011.
