Woman, 80, loses home to Xmas tree fire

An 80-year-old woman has lost her Long Island home after a blaze started by a Christmas tree tore through her house. Police say the woman is unhurt after fleeing her Syosset home on Nevada Street. Police say about 70 firefighters and six trucks were called to help put out the fire on Tuesday. They say the house was destroyed.

Police say the woman was in her kitchen about 5:15 p.m. when she heard a sizzling sound coming from the tree in the living room. She ran from the house when she saw smoke.

The fire is under investigation.
