Fire engulfs building in Queens

COLLEGE POINT Huge flames could be seen at the height of the fire around 6:00 p.m. at 119th Street and 22nd Avenue.

Firefighters fought the two-alarm fire from outside the building. They say they could not go inside because winds blowing through the building's windows made conditions too dangerous.

The building was the home of an artist, who also used the space as a studio.

Investigators believe a space heater sparked the fire. The owner tried to put out the fire before calling 911, officials said. By the time he called for help, the fire was raging out of control.

Both people inside the building at the time escaped without injury.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries.

The fire was contained to the building, but officials said a marina and some boats behind the building also sustained some damage.
