Nassau County police say a teenager has been arrested in the wounding of an 11-year-old girl outside a bodega. The 19-year-old is awaiting arraignment Friday in Hempstead on charges of reckless endangerment and weapon possession.
The child was shot as she left the Hempstead store with friends at about 5:15 p.m. Monday. She had heard gunshots and started to run, then felt pain and burning on her ankle. She was treated at a hospital.
Police said it appeared the children were not the intended targets.
