Metro-North restored after track fire

Metro-North service has been restored after it was suspended at Grand Central Terminal because of a track fire just north of the station. Authorities say a pile of railroad ties caught fire in the tunnel, at around East 51st Street and Park Avenue, just after 10:30 a.m. The fire caused a smoke condition that traveled through the tunnel.

The FDNY asked Metro-North to turn off third rail power while the fire was being extinguished. That caused the railroad to suspended all service in and out of Grand Central Terminal.
