Island Grill is a taste of the Middle East, right in Flatbush. The food is glatt kosher and non-dairy, so that means there's lots of meat on the rotisserie, on the grill and on the plate.

Island Grill's Yemenite Soup

Ingredients

5 onions chopped
½ cup of canola oil
1lb beef shoulder
4 cups of water
2tbsp. chopped garlic
2tbsp. salt
2tbsp. pepper
4tbsp of chicken flavoring (powder)
3tbsp cumin
2tbsp. paprika
3tbsp. hawaeg
1 ½ tbsp. nutmeg
1/12tbsp. ginger
8 potatoes (peeled and chopped)
1 sprig of cilantro
4tbsp of tomato paste

In a pot heat the oil. Add onions and let cook till brown and soft. Add meat and cook till browned. Once browned, add water and seasonings. Cook for 3 hours on low flame until meat is soft. Add potatoes and cook for 40 minutes until potatoes are soft. Add cilantro and tomato paste. Cook for 10 minutes. And serve.
