Two people died in a seven-vehicle accident along Route 78 in Union Township. The accident happened about 11:15 a.m. in the eastbound express lanes of the highway near Exit 49A.

Forty-six-year-old Janet Adamko of Dayton and 47-year-old Laura Hibbler of Northampton, Pa. were killed driving in separate cars.

State police spokesman Stephen Jones said three people in other vehicles suffered minor injuries.

Jones says 28-year-old Brian Perhacs of East Brunswick was driving a dump truck in the westbound express lanes when he crossed into the eastbound express lanes near Exit 49A and turned over. The truck spilled a load of dirt, causing a chain reaction collision.

Perhacs was treated for minor contusions and released from a local hospital. Jones said no charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.
