2 dead in New Jersey house fire

An early morning fire in Irvington has claimed two lives. Police say the fire started just before 8 a.m. in the basement of a three-story multi-family home on University Place. They have not said what caused it.

Essex County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Paul Loriquet says one victim died at the scene, and another died at University Hospital. Police have not yet publicly identified the victims.

No one else was injured.

Six other residents have been relocated with help from the American Red Cross.
