A former National Archives official who helped oversee other presidential libraries will be the director of the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas. The acting U.S. archivist on Monday announced the appointment of Alan C. Lowe, who spent 14 years with the National Archives presidential library system.

The Bush library and museum, to be built on the campus of Southern Methodist University, will be the 13th such facility in the presidential library system.

Since 2003, Lowe has been executive director of the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy in Knoxville, Tenn. He will begin his duties with the Bush library in April.
